BIG SKEEZ

Electronic,Hip-Hop/Rap | Australia

About

Big Skeez’s music is in constant conversation with his roots, whether they lay in Africa or in Western Sydney. This proud sense of being simultaneously from and for a community still pulses tangibly through every aspect of his art; in the studio, his close working relationships with his producers and a hands-on, intimate involvement in the beat-making and production process allows Skeez to impress a stronger connection between himself and the music.

Skeez’s was a childhood immersed in the sounds of Africa, Afro-beat, Dancehall, Reggae and R&B records from his parents and older siblings ringing in his ears - transmissions from Senegal, the Congo, Nigeria and a myriad of countries from around the continent that suffused the entire household. So that when Afro Swing, pioneered by the likes of JHus, Yxng Bane and Kojo Funds in the late 2010s, burst onto the scene with its vivid, irrepressible combination of dancehall, afrobeats, trap and grime, it all made instinctual sense to Big Skeez.

Signing with NLV Records in early 2021, and working closely with Nina Las Vegas and Swick on his sound. In between, years of consistent output, steady, patient creative toiling and collaborations with the likes of Human Movement, Korky Buchek, FOURA and Swick (Capo Lee, Big Zuu, Kamakaze, Kota Banks, Tkay Maidza), have garnered support from triple j with Spot Rotations on "Up" and "No Trace", then on "Where Yuh From with Gold Fang" picking up Full Rotation on Triple J and internationally received airtime on BBC 6, The Dotty Show on Apple Music, Reprezent FM and more, FBI Radio Rotations for Up, Where Yuh From, Bang and Work Don't Stop, more recently becoming a finalist for Acclaim's All Stars for 2023, Big Skeez was lucky enough to be apart of Mercedes Fashion Week in Sydney walking the runway, plus being featured in Vogue’s Sound Of Now September Issue 2022, November’s GQ Online publication for Dior, Acclaim, The Life Of Andy, Snifferz and has performed as part of Halo at Phoenix Central Park with Gold Fang.
