DARTZ ignited into existence after singer Danz talked his way into an opening slot for Aussie rockers The Chats — before realising he might need a band (and songs). Quickly assembling in a Wellington flat, the rabble-rousing quartet started to fire out their unique brand of snappy and intelligent garage rock, with influences rooted in the boozy Kiwi pub anthems of yesteryear as well as modern punk freneticism and landlord-induced anxieties.

Four years on, the DARTZ boys have carved out their own lane in Aotearoa's music scene, with a diehard nationwide fanbase enamoured by their high-energy and rark-heavy live set, singalong choruses, and razor-sharp lyrics: DARTZ's modus operandi will see them thread the needle between offering up relatable tales of bad nights out and untrustworthy dealers, and taking on hard-hitting topics like decolonisation, megachurch pastors, and NZ's housing and rental crises.

Following a run of popular singles that won them the title of 'Favourite Group' at the inaugural NZ Student Radio awards, in 2022 DARTZ signed to legendary NZ indie label Flying Nun and released debut album “The Band from Wellington, New Zealand”, which shot to #1 on the Official Top 20 NZ Album Charts. Since then they've opened for bands like Turnstile and Fidlar, toured again with The Chats, won themselves a slot on Auckland's Laneway Festival, and played their first Australian shows, all while working on their upcoming second album with producer James Goldsmith (Beastwars, Mermaidens).

Signalling the start of something big, DARTZ have recently released new single "Earn The Thirst", an ode to the importance of putting your body first and the beers second, alongside a music video filmed on Super8mm by Ezra Simons (Earth Tongue) and the announcement of a New Zealand tour featuring some of DARTZ's biggest shows yet.
