About

nuum, the artist project of 23-year-old Australian singer/songwriter/producer Solomon Gutteridge hailing from Dunsborough, Western Australia, began a little over 7 years ago in high school, Inspired by his favourite EDM and film/anime soundtracks at the time. Seeing flume use a specific midi keyboard in an interview, nuum bought the same one, which coincidentally came with his first version of music making software.

Hailing from a small seaside town isolated from the world (but really from nowhere as his family constantly moved due to his fathers work growing up), nuum turned to music as an emotional crutch, and a means of broadening his horizons. Connecting with likeminded friends in music forums and Soundcloud dm’s online from his corner of the world, nuum quickly got itchy feet and a the strong urge to make something more than himself.

At the age of 17, nuum moved alone to live in a Buddhist monastery in the south of France, periodically halting his music making for a year, a pivotal time in his life which made him realise the inability he had to stop making music. ?Upon realising this, riding the new found inspiration on his return to Dunsborough at the age of 18, nuum worked hard to save enough, working cafe jobs, to move to Tokyo for his birthday in 2019, where he’d decided to make the jump to meet a friend he’d met on music forums prior to moving to France. This decision proved to be integral in the formation of nuum’s evolution.

On his return from Tokyo some 8 months after late 2019 to rural western australia, nuum made the move to Perth, where he based himself for the next years honing his craft. 2021 saw the release of nuum’s first EP “Spider Lily”, an emotional notebook of songs that nuum explains; “were a catharsis that allowed him to untie knots inside him that had previously stopped him from expressing himself freely through music.” Starting 2022 out with a bang, nuum released an official remix of Japanese Shoegaze band “yuragi’s song “While my waves Wonder” alongside artists such as Ryan Hemsworth and Slow Magic, back to back with a remix for Canadian indie trio ;Afternoon Bike Ride.

Keeping his momentum up since moving to Melbourne, nuum has been on a winning streak, supporting Daine and Nick Ward on his Debut Australian tour, additionally playing playing regional festival shows in Sydney and Melbourne, and finally his own headline shows in Melbourne and Tokyo on the release of his second project “nu world”, a forward thinking pop EP which has garnered him attention from artists and fans internationally and locally since its release.

2023 continues to pave an exciting path for nuum with his two break out singles "Run From Me" and "Black Coffee and a Cigarette" showing the artists evolution and trajectory for whats to come. nuum is one to watch.
