First Nations

SXSW Sydney acknowledges the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the land where the event will take place.

Representation is important to us and with the guidance of local Traditional Custodians, we are working to ensure the event recognises and respectfully upholds inclusive cultural protocols.

Whether it is in the sciences, tech, games, screen or music industries, First Nations voices and stories are an integral component of the global platform of SXSW Sydney.

First Nations creators, entrepreneurs and innovators from Australia and beyond will find a myriad of relatable and constructive content and opportunities across the our program, showcases or expo on this page.

Jack Reis also contributes; “SXSW is truly a movement bringing together many cultures. My heritage is First Nations Australian, I am Badulaig (Badu man), from Zenadth Kes (the Torres Strait). When you embrace many cultures and industries you invariably introduce diversity. Bringing together and showcasing the tech, gaming and the creative industries of music and screenplay allows for more ideas, more talent, more skills, and a diversity of perspectives which increases the potential for your desired accomplishments. I’m looking forward to experiencing this firsthand at SXSW Sydney 2023.”
