About

A catchy teen romance inspired by the music of Japanese psych rockers Exne Kedy a.k.a. Kensuke Ide With His Mothership.

Inspired by the real-life concept album “Strolling Planet ’74” – for which Japanese psych rock musician Kensuke Ide transformed into the fictitious 70s glam rock group Exne Kedy and the Poltergeists – Plastic tells the story of teenagers Jun and Ibuki’s search for the legendary rock band, 40 years after their epochal farewell concert – through love, pandemics, evolving taste, and mounting adult responsibilities.

Programmer's note: One of the most exciting undiscovered voices in independent Japanese cinema, Daisuke Miyazaki's diverse body of work presents a vision of modern Japanese youth and subculture not frequently seen in the more conservative work of his contemporaries. His latest feature Plastic is no exception; a wonderful, understated and nifty new work from one of Japan's finest underground directors, boasting killer performances from An Ogawa and Takuma Fujie, lush lo-fi cinematography, and a fantastic psych-rock soundtrack from Kensuke Ide. If you haven't dipped your toes in one of Daisuke Miyazaki's wonderful worlds, there's no better time than now!
