Frisson: Why Music Gives You Chills

About

Join Sonos, GRAMMY winning producer Eric J Dubowksy, music psychologist Dr Solange Glasser and Amplify for an insightful panel on Frisson: Why music gives you chills.

You know that tingling sensation you get when you feel moved by music? That’s frisson. Also known as “aesthetic chills”, frisson is an emotional response to music that can evoke physical sensations such as shivers, goosebumps and dilated pupils.

In this session you’ll hear from the team behind the making of Frisson Trigger, a groundbreaking track engineered to give listeners chills. GRAMMY, Emmy® and ARIA-winning producer Eric J Dubowsky, music psychologist Dr Solange Glasser, Director of Marketing for Growth Markets at Sonos Emma Levy and Tim Baggott, ECD at creative agency Amplify will explore the factors that cause physical sensations in the listener, and how Sonos brought art and science together to create a one-of-a-kind experience.

Research finds that specific musical compositions and arrangements can trigger frisson. While academia has explored the phenomenon thoroughly, no record could be found of any previous attempt to blend the science with musical artistry to compose a track purely made up of frisson triggers. So Sonos approached Eric J Dubowsky with an idea. The result is Frisson Trigger, a groundbreaking piece of music that has become a platform for Sonos to talk about their latest spatial audio technology and has captured the imagination of a global audience.
