Indigenous Intelligence for Humane Digital Spaces

About

“If you don’t move with the land, the land will move you” - Tyson Yunkaporta.

Today, we are more familiar with digital environments and spaces than the country on which we live.

Digital technologies dismantle boundaries between places, teams and contexts, so we can no longer rely on where we are to inform how we should behave. This makes it hard to tread lightly and carefully.

Indigenous responsibility, by contrast, is embedded in the connection to country, and the scaffolding & support needed to keep long-term responsibilities in mind lives in the landscape itself.

To make digital spaces truly humane, we need to treat them not just as tools, but as places that shape our sense of ourselves, our sense of others, and our responsibilities to each other. And we can start by exploring the genius of Indigenous traditions at cultivating a sense of place.

In this session, an Indigenous Governance Expert and a Design Strategist will explore how a sense of place can enhance local knowledge, creativity and responsibility - and what this means for the task of designing a future of work that is more ethical and intelligent.
