Save Game: Video Game Collecting at the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia

About

90% of the early days of the games industry have already been lost to history, according to some sources. The race is on to locate and preserve critical artefacts from the early days of the 21st century's preeminent form, as well as to bring games into contemporary cultural and archival practice. The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA) began collecting video games in the 1990s and in 2023 will begin preserving video games funded by Screen Australia's Games: Expansion Pack initiative, and also games receiving Australian Government Support through the Digital Games Tax Offset legislation. Hear from members of the NFSA, Screen Australia, and A New Approach (ANA) about this exciting new initiative, and about the intersection of video games and government in this session moderated by award-winning presenter, video game critic and technology journalist Angharad "Rad" Yeo.
