Karuna is a doctoral candidate at the University of Sydney, pursuing a PhD in the field of DNA nanotechnology. Having completed an undergraduate degree in biomedical nanotechnology in 2020, she has experience in a range of chemical and biophysical research fields. Her current research focuses on the creation of artificial cells out of DNA building blocks, to better understand and replicate the movement of cells through the bloodstream. Throughout her career, she has prioritised positions in science communication, and as such has extensive experience in presenting her own and others’ research to novice and non-specialist audiences. She maintains the belief that the dissemination of scientific knowledge to public audiences is the most direct way to spread the benefits of research to broader society, and that it is an essential skill for all researchers.
