About

Rodolfo Ocampo is a PhD student in human-AI creative collaboration at UNSW, and founder of Humans+AI Studio. His research, professional and creative practices explore how to enable effective human-machines partnerships.

Before coming to Australia, Rodolfo worked at Google rolling out new products in Latin America where he became fascinated by the wide-randing impacts of AI. He came to Australia on a scholarship to participate in a multidisciplinary master’s at the ANU’s 3Ai Institute. The program brought together a multidisciplinary ensemble of people from all around the world to explore questions of ethics, interaction and possibilities of AI-enabled cyberphysical systems.

After graduating, Rodolfo worked at the CSIRO developing responsible AI-enabled systems to support First Nations Rangers in caring for country through data, particularly in the management of invasive species.

In 2021, he started his PhD at the UNSW School of Art and Design, to study how to enable effective collaboration between humans and AI. As an early experiment, he developed Narrative Device, one of the first viral GPT3 enabled apps which was used more than 2 million times to generate short stories. Through his research we has worked with professionals to understand how they can use AI to enhance creativity, ranging from designers, writers and teachers.

He also develops interactive installations that leverage AI as a creative tool. Recently exhibited an installation at the Sydney Opera House that turns the building’s data into music using GPT4.

His work has been exhibited at Milan Design Week, London Design Week, and he has been a guest speaker ABC radio, Channel 7 News. His work has appeared in The Guardian, The Conversation and the Australian Financial Review.
