Sally Coleman is a musician, radio personality and music industry professional, and the creative director of a new science fiction virtual band called Big Sand. She was previously the host of triple j Breakfast as part of Sally and Erica, and one half of hip hop duo Coda Conduct. Her new project, Big Sand, is a highly collaborative animated band that sees Sally using new techniques such as motion capture and Unreal Engine to bring the characters and their fictional world to life. Set on a beautiful but harsh desert planet, the project is a playful expedition into the world of emerging technology, digital frontiers, and different ways of envisioning the future music industry. This project has seen Sally named one of the inaugural recipients of the APRA AMCOS x Australia Council ‘Digital Futures Initiative’, and has received support from Australia Council, CreateNSW, Flinders University, CDW Animation and Creative Partnerships Australia. Sally’s passion for exploring creative uses for technology in the arts has seen her produce and present relevant stories across TV, radio and digital.
