About

Professor Shelley Kinash is the Executive Principal Student Experience at the University of New England (UNE). She is a Principal Fellow with the Higher Education Academy. She is a dual citizen – Australian and Canadian. She completed her PhD in Educational Technology in 2004 through the University of Calgary, and researched blind online learners. The resulting book is titled Seeing Beyond Blindness. Professor Kinash oversees the entirety of the student experience from enrolment through student progression to graduate career success. She simultaneously performs and transforms, leading operational excellence across co-curricular student services and supports while inspiring and activating scholarship and continuous improvement in student retention, engagement and personalised learning journeys. Reporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, she leads a team of over 100 staff and has 6 direct reports, including the UNE-wide heads of: library, student services, student co-curriculum, student wellness, student complaints & grievances and residential systems. Prior to Executive Leadership positions (Bond University - 8.5 years and USQ - 4 years), she was an academic, teaching under- and post- graduate students in Faculties of Education (in Canada & Australia). She has a h-index of 22 with over 2200 research citations. She co/led 3 Category-One national research grants (total research grant income of over $1 million) on graduate employability, postgraduate student experience and closing-the-loop on student evaluation of courses and teaching.
