Toby Barlow joined Treasury Wine Estates in August 2019 as General Manager of the TWE Barossa winery to lead the $170m Vale project building the future of luxury wine at TWE. Previously Toby has worked as Mitchelton Winemaker (2000-2007) , St Hallett Senior winemaker (2007 -2012) and Senior Winemaker/ Wineries Director for the Lion Wine Group and Fine Wine Partners from April 2012 to January 2017 when the group was purchased by Accolade Wines. Toby’s role then grew to encompass the Accolade premium wineries including such wineries as Grant Burge, Petaluma, Stonier , Bay of Fires, Knappstein, Hardy’s Tintara and Houghton. Aside from these roles Toby has travelled globally in a sales capacity to most major world markets , conducted innumerable dinners and worked vintages in a number of different regions including Argyle (Oregon USA) , Matua (NZ) , Monarch(Hunter Valley), Rhone Valley (L’hermitage France) and Merum Priorati in Priorat, Spain .

The origins of Toby’s interest in wine is not confined to the vineyards but nourishes a deep love for travel, new perspectives and the intersection of art and science. Over the course of his personal life and career in wine Toby has travelled extensively to over 60 countries and finds inspiration from diverse cultures and landscapes. His philosophical background and journeys around the world have allowed him to incorporate new elements into his purpose of joyfully inspiring other through perspective; and the occasional glass of wine of course.

Toby grew up in Sydney suburbia and holds a Bachelor of Arts (Philosophy major) and a Graduate Diploma in Oenology. Toby was Dux of the AWRI Advanced Wine Assessment Course , a scholar and runner up at the Len Evans Tutorial in 2013 ; arguably the worlds most exclusive wine school. Toby is also one of Australia elite wine show judges with extensive wineshow judging experience over the last twenty years at national, capital city and regional shows.

On the personal front he is a soccer tragic , which he has played for almost 40 years and coached for all his children .
