XR+ is a SXSW Sydney showcase that assembles projects from across the world that push the boundaries of immersive, interactive, and experiential technology. Evolving from our original XR Showcase, XR+ expands beyond Augmented, Virtual, and Mixed Reality to celebrate the full spectrum of immersive and interactive technologies.

Fusing cutting-edge technology with visionary design, this unique collection explores new ways of engaging with the world, blending Tech, Screen, Music, and Games. Whether headset-based or not, XR+ invites audiences to experience how creative technology can reshape our perception of reality.

SXSW Sydney XR+ is an interactive experience that goes beyond traditional boundaries, highlighting the evolving landscape of immersive media. We are on the lookout for work that epitomises creativity, ingenuity, and a forward-thinking approach to technology. These are works that captivate and transport audiences through interaction, play, and experimentation. From newly developed games and screen-based experiences to speculative tools and sensory environments, we welcome submissions from all projects that harness technology to alter, enhance, or challenge reality.

Attendance for XR+ is required, and all submitting applicants must be able to attend SXSW Sydney in person to exhibit their project. Successful applicants will be notified after the submission platform closes on 31 June 2025. All selected projects will be provided two (2) Pro Passes to attend SXSW Sydney 2025.

XR+ is one element of a range of networking events, professional development seminars, workshops, mixers, themed events and parties that take place during SXSW Sydney. Pass holders are welcome to attend any of the events across the program, including the Conference, Games Festival, Music Festival, Screen Festival, and the Technology & Innovation Expo.

XR+ will be held during SXSW Sydney from 13–19 October 2025.

How are projects chosen for the XR+ Showcase?

SXSW Sydney XR+ is an interactive experience that highlights work that pushes boundaries and redefines our perception of reality. Projects are evaluated on their creativity, technical execution, immersion, innovation, user experience, interactivity, and purpose. Each submission is reviewed and assessed by multiple parties. Following the assessment, successful applicants will receive an invitation to showcase at SXSW Sydney. Unfortunately, as we anticipate a large number of submissions, it will not be possible to accommodate every application.

What are the categories for submissions?

SXSW Sydney is accepting applications for immersive projects using virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR) and other forms of interactive or experimental technology. We welcome submissions across the games, music, screen, and tech industries that leverage emerging technologies and the surrounding physical environment.

This may include:
• Headset-based XR experiences
• Interactive installations and sensor-based works
• Generative or AI-powered systems
• Extended screen or projection-based works
• Experimental games or playable media
• Immersive sound and audio-driven experiences
• Wearable or object-based interfaces

Do I need to attend if I am selected?

Attendance for XR+ is mandatory. Due to the nature of the XR+ Showcase, it is critical that a team member is present to set up, bump out, troubleshoot and present the submission to the public. If your team cannot travel to SXSW Sydney, we encourage you to ask your networks in Sydney to attend in your place or hire staff for the duration of the Showcase.

How can I apply for the XR+ Awards?

All projects accepted into XR+ are eligible for the XR+ Award. All judging will take place during the showcase

When will I find out if my project is selected?

Successful applicants will be notified on a rolling basis from June 1st with final selection made by July 30th .

If selected, will myself or my team receive any compensation from SXSW Sydney?

Each selected title will receive two SXSW Sydney 2025 Pro Passes. Successful teams will also have the option to purchase additional SXSW Sydney 2025 Pro Passes at the lowest rate. Successful applicants will also receive a booth space at no cost to the applicant.

If I am not selected, should I still come to SXSW Sydney?

Of course! The SXSW Sydney Conference and Festivals will feature mentor sessions, panel discussions, interviews, meet-and-greets, and countless other opportunities to network and take the next step in your career.

Can I apply if I showcased at SXSW Sydney 2023/4 XR Showcase?

Yes! Projects that have previously been showcased at SXSW Sydney are still eligible for consideration provided they meet other requirements.
