This year, SXSW Sydney proudly introduces its inaugural Game Jam as a standout feature of the 2024 Games Festival. This exciting new initiative is designed to spotlight the boundless creativity and innovative spirit of game developers from around the globe. Over the course of 30 days, participating teams will receive a unique theme to inspire and guide their game development journey. The aim is to push the boundaries of game design and showcase remarkable new concepts that push the industry forward.

Selected projects from the Game Jam will be highlighted and rewarded with exclusive opportunities, including two Games Badges that grant full access to SXSW Sydney. This is more than just a competition; it's a celebration of creativity, a chance to network with industry experts, and an opportunity to gain recognition on a prominent platform. Yeehaw! Saddle up for the first-ever SXSW Sydney Game Jam as part of the 2024 Games Festival

Tams will have 30 days to develop a game based on this year’s cowboy theme, with ten shortlisted projects winning two Games Badges each. These top entries will be showcased during the SXSW Sydney Games Festival from October 16-20, 2024.

The CowboyJam runs remotely from August 1-31, 2024, and the theme is: COWBOYS. Interpret it any way you like and let your creativity shine!

Frequently asked questions

Who can apply for the Game Jam?
Applicants for the SXSW Sydney Game Jam must be over the ages of 18. We encourage all creators including new and emerging talent.
What does it cost to be in the Game Jam?
There is no cost of entry for the Game Jam.
Is there a prize?
The winners of the Game Jam will win 2 Games Badges to attend SXSW Sydney 2024.

Your game will also feature in the Games Showcase
Can I submit a previous project for the Game Jam?
To be eligible for the Game Jam, you must build the entire game from scratch between 1 August and 31 August 2024.

How many people can I have in a team?
You can have as many as 5 people in the team for the Game Jam. If you have more than 5 we suggest your other team members also complete the Registration Form and apply as two teams.
How do I join?
You can join the Game Jam by heading to our itch.io page and filling out the registration form.
When do the winners get announced?
The winners for the Game Jam will be contacteted using the nominated email address associated with their account.
